PE and Sports Premium

PE and Sport at Southbury Primary School

At Southbury, we believe PE and sport are an important part of every child’s education. We make sure that all children take part in at least two hours of physical activity each week as part of the school day.

We know that taking part in sport and physical activity helps children stay healthy, build confidence, and learn important life skills like teamwork, fair play, and respect for others.

In 2013, the government introduced special funding (called the PE and Sport Premium) to help schools improve their PE and sports provision. This money is given to all state-funded schools with primary-aged children.

At Southbury, we use this funding in a number of ways to give our pupils the best possible experiences in PE and sport:

  • Providing 'active lunchtimes' where qualified PE coaches lead a variety of games and activities with the children.

  • Taking part in local sports tournaments, festivals, and competitions for children of all ages.

  • Entering children into leagues and competitions run by the Enfield PE Team.

  • Using ICT in PE lessons, so children can watch and evaluate their own performances and those of their classmates. This also helps teachers track progress and plan next steps.

  • Hiring qualified sports coaches to teach a variety of sports during PE lessons.

We’re proud to offer a wide range of physical activities at Southbury and are committed to helping every child enjoy being active and develop a love for sport that lasts a lifetime.
