Physical Education

At Southbury Primary School, we are committed to providing high quality PE lessons, delivered by both Class Teachers and a specialist Sports Coach.

At Southbury Primary School, we have used the Sports Premium to employ six Sports Coaches to lead lunchtime physical activities. The coaches work across our three playgrounds to provide a range of activities, which are available to all pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Regular dialogue between coaches and teaching staff ensures that we can identify pupils’ areas for development and also recognise individual talent in particular sports.

At Southbury we believe in promoting healthy, active lifestyles. All Key Stage 2 children participate in the Daily Mile. We encourage children of all abilities to participate in a range of lunchtime activities and aim to inspire our pupils to continue participating in sporting activities outside of school. The Sports Premium funding has enabled our school to increase the provision of structured lunchtime activities, ensuring that children reach the minimum daily requirement of 30 minutes of physical activity at school per day.

The employment of Sports Coaches has helped to raise the profile of PE around the school. Children are encouraged to participate in physical activity, and the verbal feedback from pupils’ has been positive.

Alongside staff CPD sessions, we also aim to send teaching staff on a variety of Borough PE courses to develop their skills and increase their confidence with teaching PE.

The information below shows the data for swimming and water safety for pupils who left Southbury at the end of the last academic year.
